The federal government has agreed to pay $150,000 to settle a lawsuit filed by the family of a man who received shoddy care from the Veterans Administration.

Rhonda Soukup filed the lawsuit on behalf of herself and her mother and sister in the death of her father, Leo James Soukup. The elder Soukup died on Oct. 3, 2023 after being flown to Avera Heart Hospital from Wagner.

Soukup, 84, had been a regular patient at the Wagner VA Clinic. He had served in the Army during the 1960s.
