Gov. Rhoden calls special session on $650M prison plan
South Dakota legislators will consider Project Prison Reset recommendations in September

South Dakota lawmakers will return to the state Capitol in September for another round of prison funding talks.
Gov. Larry Rhoden has issued an executive proclamation calling for a special session of the South Dakota Legislature on Sept. 23, where legislators will consider authorizing hundreds of millions of dollars for the construction of a new men’s prison.
In a letter sent to lawmakers, legislative leaders, and Lt. Gov. Tony Venhuizen, Rhoden set the date for Sept. 23 at 9 a.m. in Pierre.
