Gov. Larry Rhoden’s lone tax relief pitch to clear 100th Legislature

South Dakota lawmakers torpedoed more than 20 other proposed property tax measures in 2025 session

South Dakota lawmakers have stamped Gov. Larry Rhoden’s property tax proposal with their endorsement, this year’s lone answer to widespread calls for relief from South Dakota homeowners.

But nearly all of the 105 legislators at the state Capitol, as well as the longtime legislator-turned-governor, say there’s more work to do.
