Governor cites Chinese data collection as security concern

South Dakota state employees are no longer able to use a popular social media app amid growing national security concerns.

Gov. Kristi Noem has signed an executive order banning the Chinese social media platform TikTok for state government agencies, employees, and contractors using state devices. The move is in response to revelations that data collected on TikTok users is being gathered on behalf of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP), according to a news release issued by the governor’s office Tuesday.
