Gary Bormann, 82, of Sioux Falls peacefully went home to the Lord on Monday, June 1, 2026, at Sanford USD Medical Center in Sioux Falls. Visitation will be held from 3-5 pm on Saturday, June 13, 2026, at Heritage Funeral Home in Sioux Falls. A memorial service will be held at 1:30 pm on Sunday, June 14, 2026, at Southern Hills Methodist Church in Sioux Falls.
Gary Bormann was born March 29, 1944, to William and Iola (Staley) Bormann. His early childhood was spent on a farm near Canistota until his family moved to Sioux Falls in 1955. After graduating from Washington High School in 1963, he went on to further his education at Nettleton Community College in Sioux Falls. On November 25, 1965, he married Cynthia Ortman. They made their home in Sioux Falls, where Gary worked for many years at Sunshine Foods. He then served as an assistant manager at a grocery store before retiring from building cabinets.
Gary enjoyed serving in his churches (Crestwood UCC and Southern Hills UMC), playing games with friends and family, taking care of the local birds, traveling around the world visiting 34 countries, fostering kittens for the Humane Society for over 30 years, and participating in his children’s and grandchildren’s activities. He was well known for his wonderful, loving hugs as well.
Gary is grateful to have shared his life with his wife of 60 years, Cindy; sons, Vernon (Janet) and F. Scott (Nola) all of Sioux Falls; grandsons, Shawn (Shavon), Brett, Trevor, Vincent and Trey; great-grandson, Xavier; siblings, Carol Turgeon, Deanna (Don) Hughes, Debra Ness, Don (Yvonne) Howe, and Donna (Mark) Meinerts, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his grandparents, his siblings Loren, Leonard, William and Barbara, and brothers-in-law Vance Turgeon and Doug Ness.
