Friendship forged at Super Bowl benefits Faulkton Youth Football
Minnesota branch of NFL Alumni Association provides grants for uniforms, equipment
A years-long friendship that began at one of the world’s most high-profile sporting events is paying dividends more than a decade later for a small South Dakota football program.
It started in 2009, when Faulkton-area rancher and business owner Sal Roseland traveled to Tampa, Florida, for Super Bowl XLIII to promote outdoor recreation and South Dakota’s pheasant hunting opportunities.
There, Roseland met Lee Nystrom, a former Green Bay Packers offensive lineman and member of the NFL Alumni Association who was looking for ways to expand the organization’s fundraising efforts.
