Former St. Francis teacher sues government over home break-ins, attack on son
School housing was not secure, and guard was regularly passed out drunk, lawsuit alleges
A former teacher at the St. Francis Indian School on Rosebud has filed suit against the federal government, alleging it was negligent after school officials failed to protect her and her children.
The lawsuit filed by Lisa Colombe comes after years of fighting with the Bureau of Indian Education over her claims under the Federal Tort Claims Act. The government denied her administrative claims earlier this year.
Colombe and her two children, who are also named as plaintiffs, lived in school housing while she taught at St. Francis School, a job she started in September, 2019. The three are enrolled members of the Rosebud Sioux Tribe.
