Former DPS Secretary Craig Price. (Austin Goss/The Dakota Scout)

PIERRE – Craig Price bid farewell last week to the Public Safety Cabinet Secretary position.

However, the seasoned lawman isn't exiting the workforce for long.

Price, 50, who left his post heading the Department of Public Safety last week after 26 years in law enforcement, has been tapped by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration to be a field administrator. The agency, operating under the U.S. Department of Transportation, exists to prevent commercial motor vehicle-related fatalities and injuries.

In his new position, Price will oversee operations in 12 states, including South Dakota. All while enjoying the convenience of working from his home office in Pierre.
