Festive Fraternity: Army of Santas deploys
Longtime group aims to bring holiday cheer to children, people with disabilities
Curt and Carla Winquist might be your average retired couple during normal times of the year, but every holiday season, they dust off their special Christmas attire and immerse themselves in the roles of Santa and Mrs. Claus. This will be the Akron, Iowa couple’s 30th season.
Curt, who has had a real beard since 1976, recalled when he started “looking more and more like Santa every day.” His beard, now white as snow, his twinkling eyes and his dimples easily pass the merry test.
It was 1994, when he and his wife started playing the role of Santa and Mrs. Claus for his family and friends.
