South Dakota halts issuance of non-citizen CDLs as state tries to comply with emergency rules
South Dakota has temporarily stopped issuing commercial driver’s licenses to non-citizens after federal authorities criticized the state for licensing practices that can enable illegal immigrants to get CDLs.
South Dakota was one of six states identified in an ongoing federal audit of licensing rules that allow people in the country illegally to drive trucks and other heavy equipment, according to the U.S. Department of Transportation.
