Fast growth driving Lincoln County criminal caseload increases
Pressure mounting on public safety, sheriff and state's attorney warn
Lincoln County’s growth is driving up criminal caseloads, stretching a short-staffed prosecutor’s office, and adding pressure on a sheriff’s office that says it already runs lean.
State’s Attorney Tom Wollman and Sheriff Steve Swenson told the Lincoln County Commission this week that the county’s rising population is generating more criminal cases, more law enforcement contacts, and more demand on public safety staff.
That pressure is landing directly on the people handling the work. Wollman said he personally carries more than 100 felony files while also running the office.
