The estate of a man who was shot and killed on the Yankton Sioux Reservation during a U.S. Marshal’s raid has filed suit after the federal government denied the estate’s $150 million administrative tort claim.

The estate of Zander Zephier made its $150 million claim with the Department of Justice in May. The department rejected the claim in November, opening Zephier’s family to file a federal lawsuit against the government.

PIERRE – South Dakota would join a majority of states that are seeking to exclude soda as a qualified food under the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program with a bill that sailed through the House Health and Human Services Committee Tuesday.
