VIEWPOINT | Extending child tax credit a critical step for supporting families

South Dakota has the highest birth rate in the nation and recently ranked fourth on the newly published Family Structure Index. We’ve long understood a simple truth: the strength of our state and our country rests on our families' strength. Expanding the Child Tax Credit is one of the most effective and meaningful ways the government can invest in families, the cornerstone of a strong and thriving society.
This credit has eased the financial burden for millions of parents by reducing their tax liability and returning a portion of their hard-earned dollars. But that relief is at risk. Without congressional action, the Child Tax Credit will be cut in half.
