Election integrity debate sparks tense exchange at Lincoln County meeting
Commissioners gaveled down after comments made during public input
A brief but tense exchange over election integrity erupted during Tuesday's Lincoln County Commission meeting in Canton after an activist raised concerns about election systems and a local official's report on upcoming changes.
During the public comment portion following County Auditor Sheri Lund's presentation, Linda Montgomery of Fairview referenced executive orders from President Trump and questioned Lincoln County's election equipment.
“President Trump came up with an executive order. If you haven't read that, it will affect our elections,” Montgomery said. “… Voter ID, paper ballots, proof of citizenship and same-day voting are all possibilities.”
