Proposed 30-year exemption stalls by single vote margin in state Senate; attempts to revive rejected legislation expected
South Dakota’s bid to lure large-scale server farms stumbled again this week at the state Capitol as data center-wary lawmakers rejected a pair of business-backed measures touted as economic development tools.
But hopes remain that both a sales tax exemption measure for new commercial construction projects and a bill deregulating electricity generation needed to supply them could still become law. Supporters signaled possible reconsideration after narrow floor defeats Monday in the Senate.
