Commissioner Doug Putnam called Lincoln County’s Justice Center a “boondoggle” Tuesday, drawing Chair Tiffani Landeen’s rebuke.

Putnam, the District 4 commissioner, questioned the size and financing of the county’s 74,000-square-foot building during an informational commission discussion. Landeen, the District 3 commissioner, later said he had not toured the facility or asked project officials for answers.

The exchange returned the county’s $54.88 million Justice Center bond to public debate. Earlier, IMEG engineers recommended a $2.5 million roundabout at County Road 106, also known as 271st Street, and Western Avenue after finding the intersection already performs poorly and could reach failing morning delays in 2027. However, no members of the public commented about the Judicial Center following Putnam’s comments.
