Closed Sioux Falls rehab hospital sued over patient death

Feeding tube meant for patient's stomach ended up in lung, lawsuit alleges

A company that owned a Sioux Falls hospital that closed last fall is denying it was responsible for the death of a patient following a botched effort to place a feeding tube in the patient’s stomach.

Joanne Gallagher filed suit on behalf of her husband, Patrick, and his estate last month against Select Specialty Hospital of Sioux Falls. The hospital, one of about 100 nationwide operated by Select Medical, closed in October after Sanford Health needed the space it leased to Select Specialty for its own services.
