A company that owned a Sioux Falls hospital that closed last fall is denying it was responsible for the death of a patient following a botched effort to place a feeding tube in the patient’s stomach.

Joanne Gallagher filed suit on behalf of her husband, Patrick, and his estate last month against Select Specialty Hospital of Sioux Falls. The hospital, one of about 100 nationwide operated by Select Medical, closed in October after Sanford Health needed the space it leased to Select Specialty for its own services.

Government settles medical malpractice suit brought against Pine Ridge hospital

The federal government will pay $225,000 to settle a lawsuit brought by a woman who accused the Pine Ridge Indian Health Service Hospital and its staff of medical malpractice.
