City Council candidates rack up fundraising totals as Sioux Falls election nears
Several campaigns rely heavily on loans, personal money, with total topping $272,000 in latest reports

The race for Sioux Falls mayor gets most of the attention when it comes to city politics, but the candidates for the four City Council seats on the June 2 ballot have been busy raising money for their campaigns.
The 13 candidates have raised more than $272,000 as of the latest campaign finance reporting deadline on Monday. Candidates are pouring tens of thousands of dollars from individual contributors, political action committees and personal loans.
In the Southeast District race, Brady Kerkman reported the largest fundraising total among all 2026 City Council candidates, at $50,433, according to documents filed with the City Clerk’s office. This includes a $43,100 loan from BMD Consulting LLC, where Kerkman serves as president.
