Brown County Jail to make arresting agencies responsible for transporting suspects

Jail has reached capacity as sheriff juggles overtime and transportation costs

The need for more space in the Brown County Jail is hardly a new issue.

It cropped up again during the Aug. 4 regular meeting of the Brown County Commission at the courthouse annex.

Sheriff Dave Lunzman updated commissioners on a policy he is changing that passes some transportation costs on to other agencies.

“It’s no secret the jail is full,” he said. “We’ve been managing to the best of our abilities.”

Tribal radio funding expected by early 2026: BIA

The Bureau of Indian Affairs plans to provide the first of the promised grants for tribal radio stations by the end of this year or early next, a department spokesperson told News Watch late Tuesday.
