South Dakota's sanctuary cities ban draws praise from Trump Border Czar Tom Homan
White House immigration enforcement official talks challenges of finding 300,000 children, exposing sex servitude trade during police appreciation dinner
U.S. Border Czar Tom Homan said Wednesday that he appreciated South Dakota’s decision to ban sanctuary cities, saying those cities in other parts of the country are posing a threat to residents, illegal immigrants and law enforcement officers.
Although Homan was unable to attend the Law Enforcement Appreciation Dinner and Children’s Charity Fundraiser in person because a federal government shutdown prevented non-critical travel, he did listen to the event via video. Prior to Homan speaking, Gov. Larry Rhoden noted that the first bill he signed when he became governor in January was one banning South Dakota cities from declaring themselves sanctuaries from federal immigration laws.
Rhoden said he wasn’t worried cities would declare themselves sanctuaries when he signed the bill. “It was a show of respect for law enforcement,” he said.
