VIEWPOINT | Don’t let dysfunction take food off South Dakota tables

This week, the South Dakota Department of Social Services (DSS) confirmed that while October Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits have been fully issued, November’s benefits are now in jeopardy due to the ongoing federal government shutdown. For the more than 75,000 South Dakotans who depend on SNAP, that means their access to groceries could vanish overnight through no fault of their own.
Let’s be clear: no one is losing eligibility. This isn’t about policy or personal responsibility. This is about dysfunction at the federal level and its real-world consequences here at home.
