A former state lawmaker and candidate for South Dakota governor will serve on his hometown school board.

Billie Sutton, the Burke Democrat who nearly upset Gov. Kristi Noem in her first run for the office in 2018, won an election this week to serve on the Burke School District’s Board of Education.
