Some of South Dakota’s deepest pockets are financing an onslaught of negative attack ads flooding airwaves and mailboxes across the state.
National partisans are also joining the chorus of commercials and campaign messaging reaching a fever pitch ahead of next month’s GOP primary election for governor, including a top ally of President Donald Trump.
Newly filed campaign finance reports tied to the four Republicans competing in the June 2 election — and the political action committees backing them — connect U.S. Rep. Dusty Johnson to a PAC that has spent more than $1.3 million on advertisements targeting his opponents in less than a month.
