2026 general election ballot set after referral effort falls short

South Dakota voters to decide four constitutional amendments in November election

South Dakota voters this year will see a lighter ballot than they saw in 2024, with four proposed amendments to the state Constitution.

All four of those amendments were proposed by the Legislature.

The final ballot took shape after efforts by a group to refer the lynchpin of Gov. Larry Rhoden’s property tax relief package fell short. South Dakotans for Fair Taxes wanted to refer Senate Bill 245 to voters.
