The Sioux Falls School District proposes a $105 million bond to replace century-old Whittier Middle School on its existing site and build a west-side elementary school, with a planned election May 18, 2027.

The district estimates an annual tax increase of $43.68 on property with a taxable value of $336,000, which its calculator uses as the Sioux Falls average. It calculates the increase at 13 cents per $1,000 of taxable value.

Whittier would receive the largest investment, at an estimated cost of $72.7 million. District leaders cite repairs needed at the old building and its limits on educational opportunities. The district would repay the bonds over 20 years through a property tax levy dedicated to that debt.
