VIEWPOINT | Protecting kids starts with holding big tech responsible

Ask any parent raising a child today, and they’ll tell you their biggest worry isn’t a scraped knee or a missed curfew. It’s what their kids are exposed to online. And parents are right to be worried. Rates of anxiety, depression, and online exploitation among children have surged in recent years. But while some states have spent years debating how to make the internet safer for kids, South Dakota has taken action to make the online world safer for children. For example, Gov. Larry Rhoden signed House Bill 1053 into law, requiring companies that provide and promote explicit and pornographic content to keep minors off of their platforms.
