As bad as the conspicuous "appearance of impropriety" was Alito's attempted disassociation from all the flag flapping fuss. His excessively effusive excuse was less than credible. However, his cantankerous protest did manage to paint his wife as a possible "person of interest" in the leak of Dobbs draft opinion.

Very well stated. In SD at least we maintain a judicial code that provides that there is a conflict of interest for a judge when there is the "appearance of impropriety". Unfortunately, our judicial code does not govern Justice Alito's rather weak justification for non-recusal.
