VIEWPOINT | Enough is enough on raising property taxes

Property taxes. Income taxes. Sales taxes. Licensing fees. Parking fees. Excise taxes. The list goes on and on. We, the taxpayers, are expected to fund the explosive growth in government expenditures. Our tax bills just keep getting bigger while our disposable income keeps getting smaller. We have a chance to say enough is enough.
The inverse relationship between the taxpayers’ ability to pay and the government’s appetite for spending is crushing our citizens. Seniors on fixed incomes are losing their homes because they can’t afford the property taxes. Young people are unable to fulfill the American dream of buying a home because inflated home prices and property taxes put monthly mortgage payments out of reach. Current homeowners are choosing not to make upgrades (which would increase valuations) because property taxes are draining them of thousands upon thousands of dollars.
