KEYSTONE – President Donald Trump lauded the United States on the eve of its 250th anniversary Friday standing in front of Mount Rushmore, one of the most recognizable monuments in the country.

Trump’s speech invoked each of his predecessors carved into granite, including Thomas Jefferson, the author of America’s founding document, the Declaration of Independence, adopted July 4, 1776.

For a quarter of a millennium, Trump said, the generations who have built what he called the “greatest country ever” created a land of unparalleled opportunity, liberty and prosperity. He praised the country for nurturing boldness, competition, ambition, warriors, explorers and doers.
