Thune touts tax cuts in meeting with South Dakota business leaders
GOP hoping last summer's legislation will be economic boon ahead of midterm election
The economic benefits of a massive piece of legislation passed by Congress in July are beginning to ripple through the economy, Sen. John Thune said Monday.
Thune, the GOP Senate majority leader, said he spoke with Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent last week. Bessent told him that tax returns are beginning to go out and they are larger because of reforms in the Working Families Tax Cuts, which Republicans passed in July.
“It was a herculean effort to get it across the finish line,” Thune said.
The state’s senior senator met with nearly two dozen business leaders from around the state at Montgomery’s, a furniture store in Sioux Falls.
