South Dakota might ditch requirement to study inmate fluctuation costs
Felony statutes since 2013 have come with fiscal impact statements
PIERRE — Altering, deleting or adding felony charges on the South Dakota law books right now requires lawmakers analyze impacts on inmate populations and costs associated with housing them.
But a measure to repeal that legislative standard is at the halfway point in its journey toward the governor’s desk.
House Bill 1003 earned passage in the state House with a 59-10 vote Thursday.
