South Dakota Democrats split on Biden as critics doubt re-election chances
Party officials, state lawmakers largely mum on whether or not incumbent president should drop out of race
South Dakota will send 20 delegates to the Democratic National Convention in Chicago next month.
All of South Dakota’s delegates are technically committed to incumbent President Joe Biden after he handily won the state’s June primary with about 75 percent of the vote. But a number of delegates and leadership in the state party are down on the president’s ability to win a second term, a mood many national Democrats also share.
Close to a dozen delegates and other members of party leadership in the state when asked by The Dakota Scout declined to say - or answer at all - whether or not Biden, 81, should step aside and offer someone else the chance to run against Republican nominee Donald Trump.
