South Dakota court system to host civics engagement town hall, public records forum
Gov. Larry Rhoden to join Chief Justice Steven Jensen and Justice Patricia DeVaney
The South Dakota Unified Judicial System will participate in two upcoming events aimed at increasing public understanding of the courts and encouraging civic engagement.
On Sept. 18, the UJS will take part in a Separation of Powers Town Hall at the State Capitol in Pierre. The event, scheduled from 8:00 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. CDT in the Capitol Rotunda, will bring together representatives from the judicial, executive and legislative branches of state government to discuss how checks and balances work in South Dakota’s governemnt.
The panel will include Supreme Court Chief Justice Steven Jensen and Justice Patricia DeVaney, with Gov. Larry Rhoden and Lt. Gov. Tony Venhuizen representing the executive branch.
