PIERRE – The Mount Rushmore state’s three electoral votes have officially been cast in favor of Republicans Donald Trump and his vice presidential running mate. 

Attorney General Marty Jackley, Lt. Gov. Larry Rhoden and Gov. Kristi Noem staffer Ryan Brunner submitted six ballots in total - one each for Trump and another for future vice president JD Vance - Tuesday afternoon at the state Capitol. 

NEWS: Noem’s $4M ‘school choice’ pitch sets stage for capitol fight

Brunner took the place of Noem, the final of three Republican delegates who was selected by South Dakotans in November to cast the official ballot for Trump and Vance. However, Noem did not attend Tuesday, instead opting to have Brunner go in her place. Brunner had to be “elected” by the group of three in order to partake.
