Harrisburg deputy city administrator tacks on two additional titles

HARRISBURG, S.D. — A new face to Harrisburg city government will be taking on two additional positions in the future.
The Harrisburg City Council on Tuesday, July 15, appointed Heath VonEye to serve as both the city engineer and the city planning and zoning administrator. The roles will come on top of VonEye’s work as the deputy city administrator.
VonEye was hired by the Harrisburg City Council in December 2024, according to council minutes, with a $195,000 salary.
City Administrator Amanda Mack on Tuesday said that it was important for a growing city like Harrisburg to have its own internal engineer, as the city has contracted those services to Stockwell Engineers, of Sioux Falls.
VonEye is a professional engineer, and Mack said the city welcomes a continued relationship with Stockwell.
He was also appointed the city’s planning and zoning administrator, a position that had its work also contracted out to Stockwell.
“This is more of an administrative clean-up action,” Mack explained. “As we all are aware, Stockwell has been serving as our internal planning and zoning guide for the past couple of years since our previous planning and zoning administrator had passed away.”
Mack explained that having an internal employee head up the city’s planning and zoning operations was also important to the city’s future.
