Six South Dakota servicemen killed in W.W. II honored in Veterans Day bridge program
Families turn out to Military Heritage Alliance to recognize sacrifices of veterans, their families
Family members of six South Dakota servicemen who were killed in action during World War II were among those who turned out Tuesday to honor veterans and their families in Sioux Falls.
Each veteran had a bridge named in his honor as part of the state’s Fallen Heroes Bridge Dedication Program started in 2019 by former Gov. Kristi Noem. Since its start, more than 70 bridges have been named for veterans either killed or declared missing in action.
“I’ve attended many of those over the years, but each event is special,” Gov. Larry Rhoden told a packed Veterans Day crowd at the South Dakota Military Heritage Alliance. Rhoden noted that it was the first time a group of veterans had bridges dedicated to their names.
