The Sioux Falls School Board closed out its first June meeting with a focus on student transitions — from the earliest learners to incoming high school freshmen and those racing ahead in math.
Board members on Monday approved a five-year renewal of a longstanding waiver that allows middle school students to earn high school credit for advanced math courses. The move, which passed without public comment, keeps open a pathway for students who complete algebra 1, accelerated geometry or accelerated algebra 2 before ninth grade to have those credits count toward graduation. The waiver, if approved by the state, will remain in effect through June 2030.
