Sioux Falls opens branch and tree drop-off sites after storm
Metro Communications received more than 150 storm-related calls Monday night
The City of Sioux Falls has opened up two locations for residents to drop off branches and trees after heavy winds swept through the area late Monday.
The sites are located at Chambers Street, near the City’s Household Hazardous Waste Facility (1015 E. Chambers Street), and Lyon Boulevard (200 Lyon Blvd.), south of the W. H. Lyon Fairgrounds near West 12th Street. They are open Monday to Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and noon to 5 p.m. on Sundays until Aug. 17.
Drop-offs are free, but only trees and branches will be accepted.
Commercial businesses and/or contractors can take fallen branches and trees to the Sioux Falls Regional Landfill and/or Mueller Pallets, located west of the landfill. For additional information on the Sioux Falls Regional Landfill, visit siouxfalls.gov/landfill.
Sioux Falls police responded to more than 100 traffic hazard calls and 43 electrical hazard calls during the storm.
Sioux Falls Emergency Manager Regan Smith said Metro Communications took 150 storm-related calls on Monday night and that most of the damage to trees was on the western and southwestern side of Sioux Falls.
Power outages affected thousands of Sioux Falls residents late Monday and into Tuesday. As of noon Tuesday, Xcel Energy reported that about 1,500 customers are still without power.
The National Weather Service reported winds above 60 mph in Sioux Falls during the storm.
What do people suggest for those who have branches down but no way to get them to the drop off sites? Will the city come around and pick any up?
