Following a countdown from 10 to one, Sioux Falls firefighters – urged on by dozens of children – started tossing chocolates from a ladder truck Sunday evening. The children then scampered to gather the candies.

It was all part of a celebration of Hanukkah, the eight-day Jewish holiday that commemorates the triumph of light over darkness. The event included a public menorah lighting ceremony, with Mayor Paul TenHaken lighting the center candle on a menorah built by local children out of Legos. The menorah was as tall as TenHaken, who stands 6-foot 3-inches.

The event included a raffle to guess the number of Legos children used to construct the menorah.
