A quarter century ago, South Dakotans wondered if the new year would bring a digital apocalypse.
Ahead of the new millennium, emergency officials warned South Dakotans to prepare for a coming Y2K (Year 2000) computer disaster as if it were a severe winter storm, according to the Dec. 31, 1999, edition of the Argus Leader. Residents were advised to have a Red Cross disaster supply kit, flashlights and a battery-operated radio to listen to Y2K-related disaster information.
