SCOUTING YESTERDAY | Deaf education in South Dakota follows national arc
This week in South Dakota history: May 16-22
Twenty-five years ago, Sioux Falls hosted the National Symposium on Childhood Deafness, according to the Argus Leader. The three-day symposium began May 20, 1999, and was reported to be the first step toward setting a national deaf education agenda.
More than 400 parents, educators, counselors and other service providers from 36 states and multiple countries descended on the Sioux Falls Convention Center for the symposium, put on by national, state and local deaf advocacy groups.
