SCOUTING YESTERDAY | Body of missing woman discovered in murder case that remains unsolved
This week in South Dakota history: Aug. 2-8
After going missing for two days, Sioux Falls police discovered the body of Pamela Halverson Aug. 5, 1999 inside her 1988 black Ford Tempo, according to Lt. Bob Runyan.
Minnehaha County Coroner Brad Randall was unable to positively identify Halverson’s body when found, the Argus Leader reported. It would take a week for officials to confirm her identity. After a fire destroyed her dental records years earlier, an x-ray of her skull was used to ID her body. Unable to determine a cause or time of death, authorities were still convinced it was a homicide.
Halverson worked at the Citibank daycare center and had asked a supervisor to call her family if she ever missed work without calling in. According to a co-worker, that’s how her family found out the 27-year-old was missing. Halverson’s father, David East, reported her missing Tuesday, Aug. 3rd.
