Reversing some poor health trends in Sioux Falls proving difficult
City Health Department releases latest three-year Community Health Assessment
Thirty-seven percent of adults in the Sioux Falls area are considered obese, according to the Community Health Assessment report released Wednesday, while access to health care services remains an unmet priority.
Those statistics were among a panoply of health data released by the Sioux Falls Health Department. The city, working in concert with Avera McKennan, Sanford Health and the Sioux Falls VA Health Care System, compiled the 114-page report, which is required to be completed every three years. The report’s conclusions were based in part on survey data and focus groups.
Based on the findings, the city and its partners identified three health priorities to key on for the next few years: They include healthy living, adolescent mental health and access to medical care – particularly oral care.
