Permanently disabled military veterans don’t pay property taxes on the first $200,000 of their home’s value in South Dakota.

A property tax relief bill authored by Sen. Joy Hohn earned support from only a third of the Hartford Republican’s chamber mates Friday, outnumbered by senators skeptical of the need, effectiveness and politics around carve-outs and shifting tax burdens onto other property owners.
