Learning one's historical language is a good thing but it should not be done at the expense of other studies. Teach Lakota, but don't displace other subject matter such as the sciences, math, and language arts in English. My grandfather's native language was German....Plattdeutch to be exact. He enjoyed speaking German with his relatives and friends but knew the importance of being skilled in reading, writing, and speaking English.
