Population growth easing in some parts of South Dakota

From his perch as Sioux Falls planning director, Jeff Eckhoff can take a deep breath.

After weathering a couple years of record population growth in Sioux Falls, annual waves of residents moving to the largest city in South Dakota are back down to their normal, pre-pandemic swells.

“That’s really manageable,” Eckhoff told The Dakota Scout this week while referencing the 2.3 percent population growth rate the city experienced last year.
