Personal stories carry multimillion dollar endorsement for new special needs facility in Sioux Falls
Funding package for new Lifescape complex advances at State Capitol
PIERRE — An emotional appeal by House lawmakers with special needs relatives helped push through an $8 million funding package for a South Dakota’s leading community support provider.
That’s how much House Bill 1093 would dedicate for LifeScape to build a new facility in Sioux Falls. The company, which has operations in Sioux Falls and Rapid City, serves all ages and provides residential services, screening for health conditions and other healthcare-related benefits and servings for those with disabilities.
The nonprofit intends to build its new facility in western Sioux Falls.
The bill’s prime sponsor, Rep. Marty Overweg, shared the story of a brother who benefits from community support services, and once lived in the state mental health hospital in Redfield.
