Tens of thousands of people packed Phillips Avenue on Friday night for the 33rd annual Parade of Lights in downtown Sioux Falls.
The event, hosted each year by Downtown Sioux Falls, Inc. on the Friday after Thanksgiving, has grown into one of the city’s most popular winter traditions. The first Parade of Lights on Nov. 27, 1992, drew an estimated 10,000 spectators and about two dozen float entries.
The Downtown Sioux Falls staple has since grown to draw more than 80 parade entries each year. More than 50,000 were estimated to have attended the parade last year.
First Bank & Trust sponsored the parade, and Sioux Falls Finance Director Shawn Pritchett served as grand marshal.
