Clarification: A previous version of this story said that Gov. Kristi Noem was not invited to a rally that former President Trump held in Sioux City on Nov. 3. Ian Furry, Noem’s spokesman, disputed that, saying invitations were made through several phone calls.

Gov. Kristi Noem disputed a news account that suggested she and other allies of former President Donald Trump are “inching away” from Trump following a lackluster midterm election for Republicans.

Noem was one of the sources cited by The New York Times in a story published Wednesday.

“If we narrow our focus there, then we’re not talking to every single American,” the paper quoted her as saying. “Our job is not just to talk to people who love Trump or hate Trump. Our job is to talk to every single American.”
