No-bid ambulance contract draws criticism from Sioux Falls leader
As the city prepares to renew its franchise with PatientCare EMS, councilors voice concerns about oversight, long-term service viability
A City Hall decision to keep using the same ambulance provider agreement is drawing scrutiny from a council leader who says Sioux Falls is handing out a multi-million-dollar contract without a formal bidding process — and without sufficient transparency.
During Tuesday’s City Council meeting, Councilor Curt Soehl questioned why Mayor Paul TenHaken’s administration didn’t issue a Request for Proposals (RFP) before penning a new contract with PatientCare EMS (PCEMS) contract agreement, a move he said “disturbs” him and is potentially precedent-setting.
